A conversation with Marco Corvino

An indispensable artist of the Italian scene

Marco “Corvino Traxx” started working as a professional radio DJ in 1985 and from there he went on to work with the legendary promotion agency “Angels Of Love” in Naples working side by side with international artists, going on to work in places like the United States, France, England, Germany, China, Russia, Australia, Japan and many other countries around the world. Marco Corvino decided it was time to venture into the studio and in 1995 his first production with Marco Carola, “Dont you know”, was released on the world renowned UMM label.

The following year he released another release on the very famous American label M.A.W rec of the now legendary DJ/producers Kenny Dope and Louie Vega under the pseudonym “Corvino Traxx”. Marco in the studio has never stopped working on new musical projects, thanks to which he has garnered numerous worldwide successes in the house music community and beyond. Today he teaches Djing and production at the Camp Academy.

Our colleagues D-Beat who are part of MOAI Techno Live Sets had a chat with Marco which we share with our readers today.

How would you define your musical project in a few words?
Hi, today I work on many projects, but they all have the same common thread, Exciting . So I think the right word is Exciting!

What seduced you about the world of electronic music?
I come from a musical background ranging from Soul, Funky , Latin and then moving on to House Music, but already in the 80s those electronic influences teased me and accompanied me in my search for my own sound. I thank the Cure, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk who influenced me a lot, but I always remained attached to sounds with a funky mood…

What is the significance of House Music, as a music genre, for the contemporary music scene?
Today the name House Music has been a bit twisted, in the last 20 years we have witnessed an evolution of this musical genre linked to a movement born at the beginning of the 90s, but like everything else it has evolved and transformed, thanks to the advent of technology that has helped a lot in creating music and thanks to the influences that have come over the years, but as a great friend of mine used to say: House Music is the origin and the basis of everything we listen to in the clubs today. Cit. Frankie Knuckles

What are your projects, the releases you are currently working on? What can we expect from Marco Corvino in the near future?
I am constantly working in the studio, between projects already underway such as Marco Corvino , Mama Droplets, Mark Raven and others in the pipeline.
In the next few months we’ll be releasing tracks in collaboration with Billy Were (Groove Collective) on one of the historic American labels, Eightball Records, and more Mama Droplets will be released on Tropical Disco. With the Mark Raven project, I’m working on a chill Lounge Soul album, where there will be many collaborations with many local artists.

At the console, what has marked you most musically and personally?
I have had the good fortune to work alongside many great artists of world renown, all of whom in their own small way have contributed to my human and artistic growth.

When you get in the car to move around, or get on the metro and put on your headphones, what kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to a lot of music, there is no precise genre, as I have always said, music must excite and I am constantly looking for this kind of feeling in all world music, also because many times I have input and then bring them into my projects.
