"We are deeply saddened and shocked by the recent events in Ukraine. AFEM has members who are directly affected and we wish to provide simple guidance on how to support those in need..."
The Association For Electronic Music or AFEM is a trade association created to connect and represent the common interests of those companies and individuals whose business is Electronic Music. It was founded in 2013 and nowadays include more than 200 companies across 25 countries.
AFEM operates in a way which reflects, promotes and preserves the best of electronic culture and brings members together as a community to solve issues and develop commercial opportunities. But it also seeks to provide global voice for electronic music industry, representing the community and culture.
MOAI Magazine, as a member of AFEM, shares the concern for the situation regarding Russia and Ukraine and would like to share this statement:
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the recent events in Ukraine. AFEM has members who are directly affected and we wish to provide simple guidance on how to support those in need, and to communicate some initial reflections on the war and the horrific consequences for all involved.
AFEM’s purpose is always to promote and preserve the best of electronic music culture and bring the international community together. This is needed now more than ever as we stand with the people of Ukraine during these dark days. AFEM condemns the unprovoked and indefensible actions of the Russian government in killing Ukrainian people and destroying Ukrainian cities.
We advocate the following actions and reflection:
- Do everything you can to support the people of Ukraine. A set of credible and vetted resources can be found here: How To Help Ukraine Now
- Separate the feelings you have towards the politics and actions of the Russian State, from the conflicted feelings you may have towards the people of Russia.
Empathize with why some artists, influencers and ordinary people within Russia may feel unable to speak out publicly in the face of repression inflicted by the regime. Those individuals within Russia who dare to oppose this war put their own life, and those of their families in danger. AFEM explicitly asks its members and the wider industry to refrain from any additional xenophobia towards the people of Russia as this only strengthens totalitarianism and tyranny. No one should be harassed or discriminated against, online or otherwise.
AFEM condemns all wars and stands in solidarity against violence.
We stand for the values of Peace, Love, Unity, Respect and Freedom for all people”.
